Kentaro…

Hiroko had her baby!!! Kentaro was born on 20th and oh, he’s so sweet!

I love, love, love newborns! I love the way they smell and the funny expressions that cross their faces. Kentaro is a tiny little thing and I just sat and held him for the longest time before working.

He was also VERY awake, which made for some interesting handling. I tried every trick I had and he was just content to sit and look at me. I finally was able to woo him asleep long enough to take some basket shots, but he was too interested in the world to sleep for me!

I normally will use my studio lights for newborns. It’s nice and predictable and I can focus my attention on the baby. Hiroko and family live in army housing in Dahlonega, so space was an issue. I made the decision to go with natural and it was a little tricky. It was a mostly cloudy day, with the sun peaking in and out of the clouds at times. I started by the window and ended up outside with a naked baby and a basket. We finished up just as the heavens opened up and it stormed. I was hot and sweaty by the end, but it was well worth the effort!

I had an absolute blast with Kentaro and Mama and sister Ivy. He peed all over my blankets and beanbag chair, but I’ll forgive him :) That’s the price you pay when you work with naked newborns! He is half-Japanese and has a head full of dark brown hair and I just love him!

Many, many thanks to Hiroko for including me at such a special time! I have the bestest clients ever!

Miss Abby…

Back in October I participated in a fund raiser for McDonough Presbyterian Children’s Academy. I took pictures of all the preschool classes and my pictures were auctioned off. I threw in free sessions to all the winners and thought I had heard from everyone by January.

To my delight I was contacted by Abby’s mama while I was at the beach. She asked if I was still available for Abby’s 2nd birthday portraits and I happily agreed.

We met at Heritage Park in McDonough and I was just tickled by how sweet and cute little Miss Abby was! She was absolutely one of the best 2 year olds I’ve ever had the pleasure of photographing! We had so much fun exploring the trails and the old houses in the park. Heritage is, hands down, one of my most favorite places to work. It has a little something for everyone and it’s just around the corner from where I live!

I am really pleased with how these portraits turned out and I am so excited to show them off! I know that every photographer improves with age and experience (like fine wine? lol), but sometimes I have a session where I really nail it and I walk away feeling like a fat, happy cat! Happy Birthday Abby!

Golden eyes…

I love the afternoon sun. It comes in through our kitchen window and creates the most wonderful golden light.

I also love my son’s eyes. For the first two years of his life they were gray. Not blue, not green, but gray. Then during his 2nd year of life they started to change and we all thought he would be a brown-eyed boy…but instead Mother Nature gifted him with green/hazel eyes! I love them…

I wanted to share this picture, because it sums up my son’s sweet personality and boy howdy could I look into those eyes all day!

Sometimes I have to stop and brag…he is my inspiration after all!

Hiroko…

I’m surrounded by preggos! One of my very best friends from high school is Hiroko. I shot her first round of maternity photos when I was first starting out in the business. It was a learning experience and I was so excited when she announced her second pregnancy!

Ivy’s going to be a big sister! I’m blessed to have clients with such beautiful children! I love Hiro’s big belly and am on pins and needles waiting for her son to be born!

There’s something about a silhouette. It’s classic and poignant to me. A pregnant silhouette is something out of this world! I shot in natural light and put a bed skirt liner up against the window which worked perfectly! Not only did I get some great shots, but I got to see Dahlonega, GA again!

Thanks for the fun visit Hiro! Good luck!

Elliot…

Mama C gave birth! I was on vacation when he was born and had to wait 3 whole weeks to meet him, but he was well worth the wait!

Elliot is a sweet, sweet newborn who came into this world clocking in over 9 lbs! I’ve worked with big babies in the past, so this was nothing new. It was hard putting him down to take his picture though, so sweet!

Newborn sessions are hard, but so rewarding! I like to take my time and not rush. There are plenty of breaks for cuddling, feeding, and diaper changes. We even managed to go the whole session without anyone peeing on my props! Yay!

A huge thanks to Mama C for letting me play with her sweet boy. Can’t wait to watch him grow up!

Lorinda & Tom…

I was contacted a few months back by an old friend from high school. She’s currently living in Belgium but was going to be in town for a month and she asked if I would take her maternity pictures.

I, of course, was happy to oblige! We had a blast at W.P. Jones Park in Duluth, GA. Lori brought along her twin sister one day, and then her husband, Tom, a couple of weeks later and I am really happy with how the shots turned out.

Nature really is the best backdrop for all types of portraiture! It’s my favorite!

I love Mom & Dad’s hands on a pregnant belly. Especially for first time parents, it signifies the anticipation and love that has already developed before the baby is even born.

This was a super fun session and it was so nice to see old friends and reconnect! Good luck Lori & Tom and can’t wait to meet your little one!

Christian…

I had a sweet visit with my Godson in Lawrenceville. I was there when he came into the world and I have been fortunate to be there as he’s growing from a baby to a toddler! He will be 2 in September!

I worked in all natural light during the session which makes for a less stressful visit. I just show up with my camera and my lenses and get to work! I love my studio set-up, but greatly prefer working in natural light!

Christian let me follow him around his back yard and was an absolute doll to photograph. I’ve mentioned before that it can be tough to photograph this age, but I love how sweet and innocent 2 year olds look in print. It kind of makes you forget the tantrums and spaghetti thrown across the room on a daily basis!

Love you Christian!

On vacation!!

SarahK Photography is at the beach!

My most favorite beach in the entire world is Destin, Florida and we are enjoying a long, restful week away from the traffic of Atlanta!

I will be unavailable through the end of May, but will be available in June!

Have a great week!

Teens Teaching Tots: Union Grove High School

I offered to do the pictures for my son’s preschool class. How sneaky of me!

It was a blast working with Mrs. Wucher’s class. My son has really enjoyed being taught by 80 different “teachers” and he has learned a lot this year! We’ll be sad to see the school year end next month.

I must hire a 16 year old cheerleader to come with me on each and every preschooler shoot I do from now on.
